WANEP-The Gambia officially commenced a national validation workshop to review and validate the Electoral Hotspot Mapping, Internal Risk Factor Assessment, and Electoral Violence Monitoring Indicators developed under the Electoral violence Monitoring, Analysis and Mitigation (E-MAM) Project.

The E-MAM Project is a European Union-funded initiative implemented by the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) across twelve West African countries. Its implementation in The Gambia reflects the country’s continued commitment to strengthening democratic governance, promoting peaceful elections, and preventing electoral violence through evidence-based early warning and response mechanisms.

The opening ceremony was graced by the European Union Ambassador and Head of Delegation, the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), and the Chief of Staff at the Office of the National Security, whose presence underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding The Gambia’s democratic process.

The technical validation workshop has brought together a broad range of stakeholders from across the country, including representatives of government institutions, political parties, civil society organisations, security services, the media, and development partners. Participants will review the draft findings, provide technical inputs, and ensure that the final products accurately reflect the electoral context and contribute to effective electoral violence prevention and mitigation.
