National Election Response Group (NERG) Officially Launched for the 2026-2027 Electoral Cycle!!!!
With coordination from WANEP-The Gambia, the National Election Response Group (NERG) has been officially launched ahead of the December 5, 2026 Presidential Elections. NERG brings together both state and non-state actors on a single platform, with the primary objective of jointly discussing, analyzing, and developing strategies to address violent threats to the electoral process. In carrying out this mandate, NERG is committed to ensuring that all response strategies align with electoral laws, remain sensitive to human security, and uphold the highest ethical standards and best practices.
The official launch was graced by the EU Ambassador, the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the Executive Director of WANEP Regional, and representatives from ECOWAS and UNOWAS — a strong demonstration of the collective commitment to peaceful and credible elections in The Gambia.
Following its launch, NERG convened its first working session to jointly review the Hotspot Mapping and Internal Risk Factor Assessment reports submitted by WANEP-The Gambia — a critical step toward early identification and mitigation of election-related risks. We extend our sincere appreciation to the European Union in The Gambia and European Union (EU) for its generous funding support toward the Electoral Violence Monitoring, Analysis and Mitigation (E-MAM) project, without which this initiative would not be possible.
Together, we are building a safer, more peaceful path to the polls.
